The Oyster Tavern
The Oyster Tavern is one of Cork’s oldest licensed establishments, having opened its doors in 1792 at Market Lane close to the English Market.
Dublin publican Alan Clancy has secured a long-term lease on the iconic bar and restaurant. He will operate it, along with 37 Dawson Street in Dublin and House in Limerick.
At this tavern, oysters are one of the signature dishes. When it opened its doors in 1826, an unusual U-shaped semicircular oak bar was installed near the entrance for customers to enjoy their oysters – a tradition which has endured into today.
